A Christmas card box-set for today’s post;some of the best U.K professional artists, household names and small-press novices, but crazy Christmas capers all!
From top:A grudging seasons greeting from Judge Dredd by one of the best new finds in 2000AD,Neil Roberts, his CGI-based art is absolutely staggering.
2nd row, left:the incomparable Chris Weston adds some typical black humour,to a white Mega-City One Crimbo scene.
2nd row,right:Old Red-Eyes Nose is back!
Amazing head-shot of Hammerstein, leader of the A.B.C Warriors by Jon Davis-Hunt.
Middle, left:U.K artist,Matt Soffe draws Ro-Jaws having a party in his favourite hang-out;the sewers!
Middle, right:All I want for Christmas is my frontal lobe! Another of Britain’s shining lights in comicdom, the highly original,Boo Cook drawing possibly the scariest of all Santas, the war-hardened barely sane, patchwork, tortured behemoth and leader of Bad Company,Kano;-just don’t ask to look in his little, black box!!
Bottom row, left:Der Happy Stick-mas! Partners-in-crime-stopping,out of time Viking,Wulf Sternhammer, with bounty hunter,Strontium Dog(S/D)the legend and reluctant hero Johnny Alpha.By the terrific Mike Collins
We Wish You A Happy Shrapnel! Bottom,right:Final A.B.C Warrior,now deceased,Happy Shrapnel does a great if somewhat gruff,Santa!From letterer/artist,Jim Campbell.
Last month’s(November)2000AD Online art competition threw up some fantastic entries:
Above top:third place,Mark Chilcott’s ace Sláine vs A.B.C Warriors.
Below left:second place,Jon Taylor’s civilised chinwag between Nemesis the Warlock and Judge Dredd!
Below right:Tharg’s choice,Dredd and A.B.C Warrior,Mongrol’s meeting is not quite so cordial!from artist/lettererJim Campbell.
“Alien Showdown”,by Jim Campbell on DeviantArt.
Now this would have been the alien “mother of all battles”-two extremely powerful beings,Nemesis the Warlock and the mysterious Shakara, weapon of vengeance-throwing down,no-holds barred, until death.
Nemesis would win,but against Cinnabar Brenneka, creator of Shakara and last of the Shakaran race, well that’s a different matter…!
Taking a break from the pages of 2000AD,Kev Walker moved over to the Judge Dredd Megazine where he made his writing debut, along with letterer Jim Campbell,on co-creation The Inspectre.
Also handling the art duties,Kev Walker’s The Inspectre tells the tale of a Kazan-era,Psi-Korps Judge who rebels against the mad War Marshal and is thrown into a gulag.
Rescued from his nightmarish prison,Victor Zadek fitted with psi-dampening implants is reinstated as a Judge to help in the rebuilding of a city from the ruins of East Meg One.
An entertaining read for first time writing credits,The Inspectre ran for 11 episodes from Megazine3.23-3.33(1Nov’96-1Sep’97).
